Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of tooth bleaching between high concentration (30%) of hydrogen peroxide (HP) and low concentrations (5%) of HP with plasma arc irradiation. 178 specimens were stained using the Stookey¡¯s method. After controlling the specimens, 95 were finally selected and classified into 5 group (n=19). Color changes (¥ÄE*) were measured after s tain and every b leaching treatment by Shad e Eye-NCC. S urface c hanges w ere d etermined using t he m icrohard ness t ester and Atomic Force Microscopy. Differences of color and microhardness between groups and bleaching frequencies were analyzed by the SPSS at the level of 0.05. The color changes were increased significantly after final bleaching in all groups (p<0.05). Microhardness significantly decreased after bleaching in all groups. AFM images reveled that morphological changes were dependent on the concentration of HP and use of plasma arc. This study suggested that 5% HP with plasma arc may be better bleaching effect and less surface change than other applications.
